DAS ZWEITE GEDÄCHTNIS
Im Schatten der Wahrheit.
By Alexandra Laudin
🔹 Short Description
What if we are not who we think we are?
When Viennese linguist Ariane Steiler discovers that identity is shaped narratively across generations, not only does her scientific project falter – but also her own past.
A literary suspense novel about origin, responsibility, and the freedom to choose anew.
Publication: Spring 2027
🔹 Detailed Synopsis
Ariane Steiler lives in Vienna and is working on research that could shake the self-understanding of an entire society: Identity does not arise solely within the individual – it is the result of historically transmitted structures of meaning that are passed down through generations.
When international committees try to stop the publication of her findings, Ariane uncovers a personal gap in her own family history. A brother who was never spoken about. An event that seemed to have been erased. A narrative that was deliberately altered.
As she realizes how much silence shapes identity, the brother himself speaks up – with an interpretation of her research that makes everything dangerous.
For if we are shaped, are we then also responsible?
"The Second Memory" is a philosophical suspense novel about the power of narrative, about family silence, and about the decision to confront one's own history.
A work of quiet intensity, atmospheric density, and existential impact.
