Short Description:
A hotel. A vanished room. A secret that remained hidden for fifty years.
When Walter Krüger begins his service as a liftboy in the venerable Hotel Mercator in 1974, he encounters a mysterious guest in room 714. The next morning, the man is gone – and no one seems to remember him.
Five decades later, Walter is on the verge of retirement. When a young colleague discovers that room 714 has disappeared from the hotel plans, a journey into the past begins. Together, they follow the traces of a story that should never have been told.
A moving novel about memory, truth, and the question of which stories endure through time.
Detailed Description:
Walter Krüger never wanted to be anything special. As a young man in 1974, he began his work as a liftboy at the Hotel Mercator, a traditional grand hotel in the middle of a major German city. On his third day of work, he encounters a guest who will change his life forever.
The man stays in room 714.
The next morning, he is gone.
His name does not appear on any guest list. His documents are missing. Even the room itself later seems never to have existed.
Walter remains the only one who remembers.
While the world changes – from radio to fax machines and the internet to artificial intelligence – Walter remains loyal to his hotel. He observes people, collects memories, and records small stories in his notebooks.
Only shortly before his retirement does young communications manager Lea Neumann notice an oddity: room 714 is missing from the modern hotel plans.
Together, they begin to unravel a decades-old mystery.
Their search leads to forgotten heroes, vanished truths, and the realization that stories are only lost when no one is willing to retell them.
"The Last Liftboy – The Secret of 714" is an atmospheric novel about memory, time, humanity, and the evolution of communication over five decades.

Why this book was written
This book is a tribute to the people behind the scenes.
To those who observe instead of being in the spotlight.
To professions that have disappeared.
To stories that were almost lost.
And to the realization that truth often doesn't survive in archives, but in people's memories.
